5 Tips for Winter Pool Care

Now that winter is just about here, there are a few tips we can offer you to make pool care easier!

 1. Monitor the pH

Continue to watch your water pH. The cooler water in winter makes it easier to maintain the pH than in summer months when the water is warmer and prone to algae. It’s still important to check weekly and add any chemicals as needed to keep your pool in top condition.

2. Clean Filters and Baskets

Filters may be dirty from withstanding another monsoon season and falling leaves in fall/winter can fill the intake basket faster than normal. Keeping these items clean will help your pool run more efficiently.

3. Check Your System to Prevent Freezing

Even though we live in the desert, it does get down to freezing occasionally so it’s important to monitor all your pipes and motorized parts.  As temperatures drop and water begins to freeze any excess water in pipes and motorized parts can freeze. If the parts freeze, they can also crack, causing long term damage. It may be beneficial to wrap pipes during water to help protect from cold temperatures.

4. Check Your Safety Cover to Make Sure It’s Properly Fitted

If you cover your pool during the winter, remember to make sure the fitting is secure. Especially if you have young children around. Covers become worn over time. Checking to make sure it is secure and in good condition will help protect your pool and provide a reliable safety barrier.

5. Renovations and Repairs

Cooler months mean more optimal conditions for pool renovations. If you have repairs that need to be made, or have been considering a pool renovation, now may be the time. Contact us for reliable referrals in the Phoenix-West Valley area.
